What is memory care assisted living
Memory care assisted living is more than a safe place to live. It offers the services of assisted living with the special programming of memory care.
Our trained team makes sure your loved one gets help when they need it while promoting independence. All this in an environment uniquely designed to support those living with memory-related conditions.
There’s more to life than a diagnosis
It’s more than living with a diagnosis. It’s about getting the most out of life.
We encourage residents to do as much as they can safely on their own, with help from our team as needed. For example, your loved one may need gentle reminders to take medications or eat, but they don’t need physical help doing those things. We meet residents where they are.
Our team is specially trained to offer encouragement and guidance to help your loved one in the most supportive, loving way possible.Contact us to learn more
Enjoy the comforts of home
The Good Samaritan Society’s memory care assisted living communities are designed to feel like home. We provide the spaces and services that address the unique needs of our residents.
Memory care assisted living communities contain key elements that engage residents physically, emotionally and spiritually:
- Life skills stations are shared spaces with stimulating props and tools your loved one may have used in the past for hobbies and projects in their daily lives. These stations provide a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment.
- A sensory room provides a calm and peaceful setting for relaxation. All rooms are stocked with materials such as soft blankets, pillows and scented hand lotions.
- Our centers are stocked with environmental cues to use as landmarks, such as bowls of fruit, to assist in wayfinding. These cues help residents recognize and navigate their surroundings.
- A sensory courtyard is a contained outdoor space where residents can enjoy fresh air and a beautiful, natural environment.
- Common areas encourage social interactions between residents.
Designed especially for your loved one
Assisted living memory care helps residents live with purpose. We offer familiar activities that help them pursue their passions. We understand that social, emotional and spiritual needs are just as important as physical needs. Our residents engage in meaningful activities that help them live meaningfully.
For those in need of memory care, a well-designed environment can offer cognitive stimulation. We create our spaces specifically for the well-being of our residents.
For example, our pathways are designed to promote walking, not wandering. This is a subtle and important design element to support those living with dementia.
Around 60% of dementia patients will wander. A walking path in a contained sensory courtyard can help residents explore the outdoors using sensory guides. They move from touching strategically placed plants in one area to a comfortable sitting area in another.
Inside our centers, life skills stations and common areas also help modify wandering behavior into walking with purpose.
